Northcote City’s enigmatic forward Calvin Mbarga has departed the NPL Victoria after just one season in Victoria, signing with Indian I-League club Salgaocar FC.

The 28-year-old began his playing career at Unisport Bafang in Cameroon, also playing in the United Arab Emirates with Baniyas SC and Al-Jazira.

A move to Australia saw him turn out for NPL SA outfit Adelaide Blue Eagles, where he became one of the league’s deadliest strikers, notching up close to a century of goals during his four year stint at the club.

The Cameroonian-born attacker failed to initially fire in Victoria following his move to Hume City, where he failed to find the back of the net from 10 appearances at the Broadmeadows-based club.

However a move to Northcote mid-way through the season saw the former youth international find his feet, netting five times in 14 appearances as he lead his side to a mid-season revival of sorts.

“Firstly, I am delighted to be in India, a country I have heard so much about. I am grateful to the management of Salgaocar FC for this opportunity,” Mbarga said in the club’s press release.

“I have heard a lot about the I-League and I am looking forward to giving it my best and hopefully bringing honours to the club. I am excited and raring to go.”

Salgaocar, finishing sixth in the 2014-15 I-League season, was the former home of Oakleigh Cannons defender Matthew Foschini and their league season is set to begin in January.
