Galaxy United FC have pulled off another coup, securing the services of 16-year-old Melbourne Victory winger Whitney Knight for their debut 2016 WNPL season.
The NTC graduate joins the regional club under the leadership of coach Vincenzo Ierardo, who will be looking towards the sprightly speedster as an x-factor for next year.
“Whitney is the kind of player we are looking for at Galaxy. She is keen to further her development in a club environment while being given the opportunity to play at the highest level in Victoria,” the head coach told Galaxy United.
“I’m excited to have Whitney on board and truly believe in her abilities.”
She’s enjoyed a strong opening two months in the W-League season, where she’s scored twice in two substitute appearances for the Melbourne Victory, including the sealer in this weekend’s 3-1 away win against Perth Glory.
The youngster is blessed with lightning pace and isn’t afraid to take the game on, even against top-class opposition, as was displayed by her audacious effort to score in the inaugural women’s Melbourne Derby.
Knight revealed how happy she was to have secured her future with the WNPL club, and is excited about the challenge of working within the Galaxy environment.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of playing for Vince at Galaxy United in a club environment and further developing myself.”
She becomes the second player to officially sign for the club, after announcing Geelong local and Knight’s Victory teammate Laura Spiranovic as their inaugural player.
