GK: Phil Petrovski (Northcote City)
Northcote City’s number one was put to work against Melbourne Victory, where he made some crucial stops at important times in the match. Kept a well-earned clean sheet, just his second of the season.
LB: Reuben Way (Heidelberg United)
With Phil Petreski and Les Doumbalis unavailable, Reuben Way was drafted in at left-back and did an admirable job in his new found role. Fought hard against the combination of the in-form Matt Millar and Amadu Koroma and in the end won the contest, after keeping a clean sheet.
CB: Jordan Wilkes (Northcote City)
Much like his teammate Petrovski, Wilkes was central to Northcote City keeping out the likes of Joey Katebian and co., and to cap things off, the centre-half added a goal on the stroke of half time with a powerful header.
CB: Milan Batur (Melbourne Knights)
Tasked with the difficult job of keeping the free-firing Green Gully at bay, the Knights skipper – making his return to league action after featuring in the FFA Cup win against Dandy City – made light work of it, as he helped mark the dangerous Liam Boland out of the game.
RB: Javier Marangos (Richmond SC)
The recently-turned 18-year-old has made a brilliant start to life at Richmond, and has looked completely at home at fullback. He put in another brilliant display to keep Hume City at bay, where his composure, communication and reading of the play belied his experience.
LM: Jonatan Germano (Avondale FC)
Playing on the left, but tucking in to influence the play through the middle, Argentine Jonatan Germano had another standout game for Avondale and has started to find his feet after a slow start due to injury. Scored his third goal in two games to complete the comeback against Pascoe Vale.
CM: Jack Petrie (Heidelberg United)
Petrie continued his stellar season with another good showing in the win against South Melbourne, grabbing a tidy goal from the edge of the box, to go along with a direct role in two of the other goals for Heidelberg.
CM: Harry Noon (Heidelberg United)
Provided a combativeness in midfield and a clinical touch up top, Noon was absolutely everywhere he needed to be for Heidelberg, complementing Petrie as the pair helped overrun the South midfield. Grabbed a brace with some opportunistic finishing and earned man-of-the-match donors.
RM: Anthony Ramzy (Northcote City)
The winger has only just made his return to the starting line-up, but he’s begun to show the form that made him a dangerous proposition last season for Northcote. The nippy winger opened the scoring for Northcote with a great volley, before providing the delivery for his side’s other two goals.
AM: Dusan Bosnjak (Oakleigh Cannons)
Bosnjak has continued his stellar form in the month of May with another brace to help down Port Melbourne. Sitting in the hole, Bosnjak was creative and potent, and eventually got reward on the scoresheet with two second-half goals to kill the game off completely.
ST: Dimi Hatzimouratis (Oakleigh Cannons)
Joining Bosnjak in the starting XI is teammate Hatzimouratis, who got his side off to a stellar start with two finishes into the right side of the net. He now has seven goals for the season in an impressive return to the NPL Victoria top-flight.
Bench:
John Honos (Oakleigh Cannons)
The third cannon to feature in the Team of the Week is custodian John Honos, who made some solid stops in the win over Port Melbourne. Although he was eventually beaten, there was not much he could to do stop David Stirton’s expert free-kick. Beats Griffin McMaster to the keeper spot on the bench.
Steven Pace (Heidelberg United)
The centre-half took his opportunity to open the scoring well with a nice finish off the boot, but also kept a clean sheet in a dominant display. While the midfielders in front of him did a lot of the work in ensuring chances didn’t slip through, Pace was up to the task to clear danger when required, including a number of set-pieces.
Greg Lombardo (Northcote City)
Like teammate Wilkes, Northcote captain Greg Lombardo was noted for his brilliant performance at the heart of defence. He also scored a goal and can consider himself unlucky to not make the starting XI.
Jem Berkant (Avondale FC)
Despite playing less than half an hour, Avondale’s Jem Berkant made a considerable impact on the contest, grabbing assists for Abrahim Yango and the aforementioned Germano to win the contest against Pascoe Vale.
Josh Barresi (Bulleen Lions)
In a game with very few standout’s, Josh Barresi provided a potency to the Bulleen attack as he headed home the equaliser against Bentleigh Greens to deny them top spot. Looked bright and dangerous throughout, despite being left isolated for large portions of the match.
Kieran Dover (Bentleigh Greens)
One of Bentleigh’s brightest across both flanks, the title-contenders’ mid-season addition put in a decent shift and created plenty of opportunities. Had a couple of chances to score himself which went begging.
