Matildas goalkeeper Brianna Davey is to debut for Bundoora this weekend, The Corner Flag can reveal.
Melbourne Victory’s no. 1 had been holding out for a move to America in recent weeks, but after a transfer to Bay Area Breeze fell through, it appears that WPL fans will have a chance to see her in action on Monday at the Veneto Club.
“Bri’s been training with Bundoora for the past few weeks,” Head Coach Mark Torcaso said.
“Diarna [Cartwright] my number one goalkeeper misses four or five games during the year and Bri will be helping cover those games when Diarna is not there.”
Whilst excited at the prospect of Victoria’s top goalkeeper playing for his team, Torcaso was at pains to point out that Bundoora had been a natural choice for Davey when it came to playing in the WPL.
“It’s certainly normal that she comes to the club where her goalkeeper coach is,” he said.
“I think it’s good for her anyway, she wanted to play WPL as well and she’s got friends at Bundoora.”
Davey had initially moved to Sydney to play with Northbridge FC a month ago but her return to Melbourne seems to have indicated an end to a foray into the NSWPL.
“Bri ended up calling me when she was in Sydney and said ‘Mark I’m coming back to Melbourne, can I play with Bundoora?’ and I said as long as it’s fine with our number one, I’m good,” Torcaso said.
“We’ve just gonna work it in when Diarna’s not around.”
