Bundoora United has been dealt a blow with the news that Caitlin Friend will have to undergo surgery on a troublesome knee today.
The striker has been battling persistent problems on her right knee for the past few months, but had looked in fine form of late with four goals in two games for the much-fancied northsiders.
“It’s annoying, I got diagnosed with ITB (Iliotibial band syndrome) and I took eight weeks off because that injury needs rest to get better,” Friend said.
“I come back from that and it starts hurting again and I find out I’ve got a meniscus tear.”
Friend revealed that Bundoora coach Mark Torcaso had been informed of her injury and was devastated by the news.
“He was pretty shattered because I’d just come back and was starting to get some game time and he had some good ideas, but then I had to give him the bad news so he was pretty upset about that,” she said.
The torn knee meniscus will see Friend out for a significant period of time, although Bundoora still have a wealth of attackers ready to slot right into the team.
“They’re going to take some of my meniscus out and hopefully I’ll be back in a couple of months,” Friend said.
