Ex-Western Sydney Wanderer’s midfielder Aaron Mooy has signed a two-year deal with the Melbourne Heart, making him the fourth young player the club has signed this week.
Following on from the signings of teenagers Jacob Melling from Adelaide and defender Connor Chapman from Newcastle, as well as 24-year-old James Brown, the Heart are making some early noise in the transfer market, perhaps a sign of things to come with a marquee spot up for grabs at the club.
Mooy has lit the A-League up since moving back home from the UK, where he spent time in the Bolton Wanderers youth system and at Scottish side St. Mirren.
His debut season in particular saw him bring an air of class to the competition, with his slick passing and attacking movement earning the midfielder a call-up to the Socceroos squad for the 2013 East Asian Cup.
Heart coach John van ‘t Schip had plenty of positive words for his latest signing, who he’ll no doubt be looking to fill the void left by Dutchman Orlando Engelaar, who departed the club at the end of last season.
“Everyone who follows the A-League knows of Aaron’s quality,” van’t Schip said.
“For us he can be a player who can dictate the style of football we want to play.
“He is one of the best young Australian players so we are delighted to have captured his signature. It shows the Club’s ambition to win trophies and play football a certain way.”
