While Heidelberg coach John Kyrgios was pleased to see his side earn an important 4-0 win against bottom side Monbulk Rangers, he was more happy with the performance of forward Laura Di Clemente who nabbed her first goal for her new club.
Whilst she hasn’t impacted the scoreboard as much as she or the coaching staff would’ve liked this year, the tricky forward has set up her teammates on a regular basis, even if it’s not directly.
“We’re very happy for her. She’s definitely been working ever so hard and she’s created a lot of chances for us with her pressure,” Kyrgios said.
“The second ball gets through due to her pressure, a couple of goals have come through [her pressure]. So we’re very happy that she’s been on the scoresheet finally.
“She’s a very good striker, she’s very quick, she presses well and she’s very dedicated. Wonderful character so we’re very happy to have her and I’m sure she’ll be scoring in the near future.
“If not scoring we’re still equally happy because she’s making goals for the other players around her. At the end of the day that’s what we want. We want to get the points and she’s helping towards that so that’s fine.”
Turning his attention to the game as a whole, Kyrgios singled out a pleasing first half performance that saw them go into the break 3-0 up.
“I thought our first half was exceptional. We played a brilliant possession game, we wanted to move the ball around really quickly today and I thought that first half was very good, especially that first 25 minutes,” the Bergers coach said.
“We could’ve scored a few more but we set up the game really well. I’m a bit disappointed in the second half performance to be honest but the first half was quite good.”
