Lou Acevski has described his side’s current displays as ‘disgusting’, after suffering a shock 1-2 loss to league battlers Richmond at Broadmeadows Valley Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Hume City head coach reiterated the sentiments of the team’s captain Nick Hegarty a week earlier by claiming that his men are failing to show a spine, following yet another loss.
“I think frustration is an understatement to be honest,” he admitted after the match.
“We’re disgusting at the moment. We have been for three weeks and we’re just getting worse.
“A team that’s supposedly vying for a top five position? No chance of that; we’re embarrassing ourselves.”
The team that was second in the league only weeks ago performed admirably in the first period, creating enough chances to put the game to bed, but once again fell away at the final hurdle.
“First half, anybody watching that game would’ve realised we should’ve been three or four nil up,” he claimed.
“And then to have a gale behind you in the second half, you should be punishing teams, three, four, five nil if you’re the real deal.
“We’re obviously not the real deal so that’s the reality of the situation, I’m not going to hide away from it. There’s no self-pride.”
When asked whether there were any positives to be taken from the game, he lamented the fact that only a number of players were contributing to the side, while others consistently failed to step up to the plate.
“Again, we’ve always got two or three boys that are giving everything and trying. Your Nicky Hegarty’s [and] Stevey Pace’s.
“But again we carried too many passengers and I just keep telling them that if you’ve got no respect for your team mates and you keep letting yourself down like that, you shouldn’t be playing this game.
He challenged his players to show a bit of ticker in the run in to the finals.
“I’ve got to be quite honest, I don’t really care about turning it around,” he asserted.
“There are four games to go and if you’ve got some self-character, you’ll go out there and try to win them but the last three weeks have shown what we’re all about.
“I’ll leave it up to the boys to show a bit of character, not me.”
Acevski will be seeking nothing less than a win against Miron Bleiberg’s Oakleigh at home on Sunday afternoon.
