Bentleigh Greens coach John Anastasiadis has described Friday night’s 3-1 win over Dandenong Thunder as one of the finest home performances he’s witnessed since landing the job.
Fans of both clubs flocked to Kingston Heath to watch two undefeated NPL sides battle it out on ANZAC Day, with the bumper crowd providing a fantastic football atmosphere.
Ultimately it was Bentleigh who took all three points after scoring three second half goals, including a brace from David Stirton to deny Dandenong the points.
“I thought we still had the ascendance in the first half, not as dominant as the second half but we certainly had more possession in the first half – we had a couple more chances where we should’ve actually scored,” the Bentleigh coach said.
“I thought overall it was probably the best if not one of the best performances that we’ve had at home since I’ve been here.”
Bentleigh’s youngsters looked composed throughout the entire contest and have performed consistently so far in the campaign – something that the Bentleigh coach credits to having faith in the youth.
“The young boys are excellent at this stage. What they showed today is what they’re capable of so I always knew that if you give the kids a chance and you believe in them, they will produce. That’s our motto so we want to keep on doing that as much we can,” Anastasiadis said.
One of that young brigade is industrious midfielder Luc Jeggo, who is beginning to make a real name for himself around the NPL with a string of consistent performances this season.
Anastasiadis reserved special praise for Jeggo, praising his work ethic throughout the 90 minutes.
“Luc [Jeggo] worked extremely hard today and we talked about it before the game, today we can’t put in a 99.9% performance, today’s a 100% performance and if we weren’t 100%, we were certainly very close,” he said.
Bentleigh Greens travel to Green Gully on Saturday harbouring hopes of extending their unbeaten run to 6 games. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 on Saturday.
