Hume City have recruited former South Melbourne and Richmond defender Bryan Bran for the 2017 NPL season.
The 25-year-old decided to leave recently relegated Richmond and has agreed to continue his career at ABD stadium. Bran becomes the 9th new signing to join Hume this off-season.
The two-time championship and treble winner has had a very successfully career in Victoria’s top flight, having played at clubs such as Dandenong Thunder, South Melbourne and stints over in Europe.
Bran stared his career at the VIS before moving to Melbourne Knights in 2010, where he made 15 appearances before making a switch to rivals Oakleigh in 2011, where the youngster made 17 appearances, netting one goal in his brief stint at the south-east club.
He made a move to Dandenong Thunder in 2012-13 where he had a standout two seasons, making 35 appearances and netting five goals. In 2012 Bran won the treble with Dandenong Thunder.
Halfway through the 2013 season Bran moved to South Melbourne, following former coach Chris Taylor, making 12 appearances and netting one goal. At the conclusion of the season Bran moved to Holland for the 2014 and 2015 seasons before making a move back to Melbourne, where he played for Richmond in the 2016 NPL season, making 23 appearances for the club.
Bran was one of Richmond’s star performers in 2016, featuring 23 times throughout the season, despite the club being relegated.
The multiple silverware-winning defender brings a host of experience to Hume City’s backline.
“It was a no-brainer joining Hume,” Bran stated.
“The reason Hume was a no-brainer is because the squad is very strong and I believe that we can achieve great success this season.”
He also cited his decision to depart Richmond as seeking a new challenge in the 2017 season, along with the opportunity to win trophies in the top flight of Victorian football.
Bran also joins former Richmond teammate Kris Kioussis at Hume, with the club continuing to re-build after 14 players left at the end of the season, including central defensive trio Shane Rexhepi, Petar Franjic and Ramazan Tavsancioglu.
