Bundoora only getting stronger

Bundoora United co-coach Paul Kilpatrick has sounded out a warning to the rest of the Sportsmart Women’s Premier League by claiming that his side will continue to improve as the season progresses.

The South Morang based club comfortably took apart a youthful Ashburton side on the weekend with the 8-1 score line indicative of the home side’s domination from the very first minute.

A combination of slick passing and lethal finishing made for a good day out for Paul Kilpatrick’s side who was delighted with his team’s ability to break down what was at times a rigid Ashburton setup.

“I thought that the girls were up for it even from the first minute,” Kilpatrick said.

“I thought that our ball movement was good. We kept possession and we forced them deeper and deeper into their half so really happy. It’s nice to score goals as well.”

The former Box Hill assistant went on to laud Rachel Alonso’s performance before adding that there still remains room for improvement.

“Rachel Alonso scored three and I thought that her three goals were really good,” he affirmed.

“We could probably have moved the ball a little bit quicker at times.

“I felt as if we probably had one touch too many at times but that would be a little bit picky.”

Bundoora’s return to form coupled with its occupation of third spot in the standings ahead of its visit to face the Casey Comets on Friday would read well for most.

A further boost will be the return of a number of key players, which Kilpatrick believes will provide the extra ammunition needed as his team continues its surge up the table.

“We haven’t had our best 11 on the park at one time this year,” he said.

“We’re starting to get players back so once we get our full squad available and ready to pick from, the second half of the season will be quite strong.”
