Bundoora United coaches Mark Torcaso and Paul Kilpatrick were pleased with their side’s combined attacking and defensive display following a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Cairnlea FC on Sunday.
With only five points separating second to fifth spot on the WPL ladder, Bundoora sit one point behind Boroondara Eagles in third place, with all the sides in finals contention now playing to secure a home berth.
Torcaso was happy with his side’s ability to make the most of a tricky Cairnlea Park pitch, playing the style of football required to challenge the top sides.
“Coming here was always going to be tough with the conditions – the ground’s not the best ground going around – we just wanted to concentrate on what we do as a group and get in here, get the three points and get out of here,” Torcaso said.
“We did that well, and the players responded pretty well. “
Kilpatrick was pleased with the momentum his players are building before the finals, combining their goalscoring prowess with a steely determination at the back to keep opposition attacks at bay.
“We’ve just been a little bit inconsistent throughout the year, but the last few weeks have been quite promising,” Kilpatrick said.
“A couple of weeks in a row we’ve now had a clean sheet, we spoke about it at half time we were the only team trying to play football, we played some nice stuff on a pretty bad park so we’re really happy.
“The next two games we’ve got to keep players fit and keep the form going.
“It’s about getting players right and making sure that what we practice at training we bring out into the game.”
With rumours of dressing room discord swirling around football circles, Kilpatrick was happy to put those rumours to bed, reiterating that the mood around the United camp was harmonious.
“The unity in the dressing room has been good all year,” he said.
“We’ve had some new players come in this year but the girls all get along really well.
“A couple of clean sheets and seven goals in two games keeps everyone happy.”
Bundoora travel to face Bulleen in a crucial game on Monday, with the latter only two points behind the former with a game in hand.
