Bundoora United co-coaches Mark Torcaso and Paul Kilpatrick echoed each other’s sentiments as the pair declared themselves pleased with the side’s 2-1 win over Boroondara Eagles.
The victory never looked in doubt and despite a nervy final few moments – Eagles midfielder Alex Gummer slotting home an astounding free-kick in the 89th minute – the home side hung on to leapfrog Bulleen into second place.
Paul Kilpatrick believed his side could’ve won by more had they been more clinical and was obviously delighted that the team hung on at the death.
“Apart from the first 10 minutes where it was quite even I thought we pretty much dominated most of the game,” he said.
“We created a lot of chances and had a lot of possession but just didn’t get the reward for some of our effort.
The last five minutes we were a little bit on edge because obviously when you score the goal, anything can happen but I thought we deserved the three points today.
“We were very comfortable on the ball today. We knocked it around well and the girls did really well.”
The Scotsman admitted that the work that’s been put in throughout the week translated onto the pitch.
“It gets down to training. We do a lot of stuff at training and we try and play football,” Kilpatrick said.
“We’re a team that tries to play football all game long. We come up against some teams that just try the long ball but we’re trying to play football. We’ve got girls who can play football and we encourage that as much as we can.”
Mark Torcaso chimed in with his thoughts, and he accepted that his side weren’t perfect, but the moments where they weren’t at their best were few and far between.
“There was only patches of [inconsistency], and that’s been our season at the moment. Once we string together a consistent 90 minutes, we’re going to be pretty dangerous in all honesty,” he said.
“At the moment we’re going at patches of inconsistency and where those couple of turnover’s were is probably in those patches where we weren’t consistent.”
He was also pleased with the way his side executed the tactical aspects of the game plan, with fluidity between the three in the centre contributing heavily to Bundy overrunning their midfield counterparts.
“We discuss things during the week and before the game. We say this is what we want you to do just to shuffle things around a little bit,” Torcaso said.
“I guess you’ve got to look at it; we’ve had three players in the back line today that weren’t our regular three and they did a really good job today and they stood up, Steph Oddo, Steph Galjar and Steph Galea.
“Basically they did their job and that’s what we were proud of. In regards to that everyone linked up well together which was great.”
