Box Hill United’s prolific forward Melanie Camilleri has secured a second return to Heidelberg United, while Senior NTC graduate Akeisha Sandhu has signed for Galaxy United for the 2017 NPLW campaign.
Camilleri makes her return to Olympic Village after a two-season stint away from the club, for whom she has featured almost 100 times for.
Her last season with the Bergers came in 2014 where she netted seven times in as many appearances, but it was her first spell which saw her make a name for herself.
Off the back of a stunning 57 goal return for Keilor Park in 2005-2006, Camilleri made the move to Heidelberg in 2007, where she netted 97 goals at over a goal a game in a six season spell.
In the process, Camilleri won the 2009 FFV Gold Medal and featured in four WPL Grand Finals, winning just the one as Heidelberg beat Box Hill 3-2 in the 2007 decider.
A veteran of 14 years and 200 goals in the top flight, Camilleri will provide a strong presence up top for Melissa Barbieri’s outfit.
“Her experience on and off the park in terms of her leadership and general knowledge of fitness will be a huge asset to the team moving forward,” read a release from Heidelberg United Women’s FC.
“She is a mentor for younger players and a player that knows the rich history of the club and the culture we are trying to drive. One of family and unity.”
Senior NTC graduate Akeisha Sandhu adds to the pool of youth talent Vincenzo Ierardo has at his disposal at Galaxy United and will compete for a spot in the front third.
The winger with an eye for goal has represented both Country New South Wales and Victoria at the National Championships and has netted six league goals since making her debut in 2015.
Sandhu also spent time last season working as a coach within the Richmond SC junior set up.
“I’m looking forward to joining Galaxy and I hope I can live up to the team’s and my expectations,” she said in a statement via Galaxy United.
“First year out of the NTC program, I am excited about playing with a great bunch talented players.”
