Ashburton United’s Emma Checker and Bulleen Lions’ Beattie Goad will be the WPL’s representatives at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in China later in August.
Australia’s group games against Japan, China and Uzbekistan will be held between August 18-22, with semi-finals on the 26th and final on the 29th.
The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2016 in Papua New Guinea, and the Matildas must finish at least third to qualify for the World Cup.
“I believe this squad is one with enormous potential, is well balanced and has quality in every position on the field,” Young Matildas head coach Ante Juric said.
“Larissa Crummer, Emma Checker, Amy Harrison and Alex Chidiac have all represented the Matildas, while there are a number of exciting talented 15 and 16 year old players who could be stars of the future.
“With 10 players eligible for the next Young Matildas campaign, this team is also one for the future and looking ahead to the bigger picture of becoming key players in our senior national setup.”
Even if Australia make it all the way to the final, both Checker and Goad will still be eligible for WPL finals, should their teams qualify.
Ashburton are currently third on the ladder, with Sinisa Cohadzic’s team gunning for a finals double chance, while Bulleen are sixth, seven points away from a top-five spot with only three rounds remaining.
