Boroondara Eagles will kickoff Round 6 of the Women’s Premier League by travelling down to Wembley Park to face Box Hill United tonight.
It is a clash that has the Eagles tail feathers flapping, as they come up against a local rival who has quite some history behind them in recent times.
Despite the exodus of many first team players in the off-season, Box Hill have still managed to recruit well and have notably brought in Ellie Brush from Canberra, while Natalie Exon has also been highly impressive in the opening five rounds.
Boroondara Director of coaching Manny Koutroulis was keen to build up the clash, as his newly promoted side look to continue their good form against a team that he feels has set the benchmark for many years in the local women’s game.
“The club’s really looking forward to our game against Box Hill, because they have been a WPL powerhouse for a number of years and they are almost neighbours,” ” Koutroulis said.
“We go there as underdogs to play against a really big club and it will be a real test for our girls.”
Following their last gasp 2-1 comeback win against Cairnlea on Sunday, Boroondara are on a three match winning run and sit in fifth spot, just two points behind Box Hill at the summit.
Meanwhile Box Hill head into the clash on the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss on Monday night against Bulleen Lions at Veneto Club, and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways at home despite the short turnaround.
