Eastern Lions and Avondale FC are hosting some revered names in the football world this weekend in two separate occasions on Friday and Saturday respectively.
The Lions are having former English international Paul Parker deliver a presentation at a dinner tonight.
The centre-back and fullback had a professional career from 1982 to 1997, most notably in the Premier League with United, along with clubs such as Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Derby County, Sheffield United, and Chelsea.
At United he won a league cup, two English premierships and an FA Cup.
He also earned 19 international caps with England and was a starter at the 1990 World Cup.
Located at Sixth Avenue in Burwood, tickets are $55 for a 2-course meal, drinks at bar prices, shirt auction and merchandise available on the night.
Meanwhile, Avondale will host a team of ex-Brazil internationals to play against their senior side, along with a clinic and other activities such a small-sides games starting at 12.30pm on Saturday 19 November at Doyle Street Reserve.
The team features the likes of:
- Mineiro – Had a career that spanned from 1997 to 2012, featuring for the national team 24 times and winning the 2007 Copa America. The midfielder also had short European stints at Hertha, Chelsea and Schalke.
- Elivelton – A 13-time capped Brazilian whose career was mostly spent in the domestic leagues of Brazil – and also Japan. He represented his nation for the Olympic side in 1991-92.
- Fabio – A defender who featured for the likes of Ponte Preta and Porto Alegre in his home nation.
- Paulo Sergio – Represented his nation 13 times for two goals. The former Corinthians, Roma, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen forward is a winner of the 1994 World Cup, UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga.
- Roberto – An ex-Brazil youth international who also predominantly featured in the Brazilian domestic leagues with, Santos, Gremio, Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians, and Japan with Consadole Sapporo.
The clash against the Avondale FC seniors will take place at 4pm.
The clubs are set to enjoy insights from footballers with levels of experience that is often rare for people within the NPL fraternity, with the occasions highlighting the ambitions clubs have in regards to bringing international footballing knowledge to Australia.
