Melbourne Victory W-League head coach Dave Edmondson was pleased with his side’s 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, and feels that his team is building a wave of momentum leading into the finals.
The win kept Victory at the top of the table for another week, a position which Edmondson is delighted to be in at this stage of the season.
“If we forget the first week, we’re unbeaten which is where we want to be,” Edmondson said.
“We can’t change that first game so every game we play we’re trying to win and we’re doing that at the moment.
“I think we probably played better today than we played against Adelaide a couple of weeks ago so we’re going in the right direction.”
One of the positives to come out of the match was Beattie Goad’s cameo appearance off the bench.
Edmondson was delighted with his young starlet’s impact and put her selection down her performance on the training field.
“She’s earnt her spot – in training she’s been fantastic and she’s one of those players who learns so quickly and I think she’s really benefitted from being around the Lisa [De Vanna’s], the Jess Fishlock’s, Jess Samuelsson.
“She’s playing against Samuelsson in every training session so she’s going to develop.
“She repaid me any confidence in her by coming on and scoring so she’s right up there and gives us options.”
Victory have now won five out of six games since the round one mauling by Sydney, and with a tough fixture list leading into the finals, Edmondson is happy to be tackling it with good form behind them.
“I certainly would rather be on this end of it than trying to face tough teams on the back of a couple of losses,” he said.
“If it’s going to take us into the finals, we want tough games leading into the finals as opposed to getting a couple of easy games that maybe give you a bit of a wrong impression of where you are, then maybe going into those knock out games in the wrong frame of mind.
“We’ll deal with what we’ve got each week and if they’re tough games, great and if we keep winning even better.”
