Melbourne Heart full back Aziz Behich has insisted that he and his teammates don’t get too ahead of themselves after snatching another three points at the expense of Sydney FC.
A mini resurgence from the Heart has seen the side gain valuable ground on the rest of the pack, sitting only nine points off a finals spot.
“We are just taking it game by game at the moment,” Behich said.
“Yes we have had a couple of good results but those results mean nothing if we just go back to where we started, so we’ve just got to keep improving every week and keep getting results.”
Melbourne Heart’s line-up has shown some sort of consistency in recent weeks, which has gone a long way towards the improvement in results and team morale.
“I think [the confidence] comes with playing well,” Behich said.
“Obviously results help, there’s a lot of confidence in the group at the moment and it makes it a lot easier when every player is fit and more challenges for spots in the squad as well.”
With attentions turned towards another good result this week against Perth, Behich has played down any concerns climate will affect player performance, with a hot day forecast for Sunday’s match.
“We’ve been told it’s going to be 30 plus,” he said.
“We’ve got Perth to worry about on the day so the heat’s a factor but for both teams, so it’s no excuse.
“It’s only for 90 minutes and we’ll be mentally prepared and physically prepared as well so we’ll be raring to go.”
Focusing on a Glory side that drew against Melbourne Victory last week, Behich was full of praise for the team from out west.
“Perth are always a good side.
“They always give us a good challenge and we lost to them already this season so we’re looking to get one back on them.”
Melbourne Heart play Perth Glory out at Lavington Sports Ground in Albury City. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
