Bulleen Lions have secured the services of two new additions, with former Melbourne Victory and Richmond SC youngster Brendan Gonano and Bentleigh Greens’ pre-season signing Nathan Tidmarsh moving to the Veneto Club.
Brisbane-born Gonano comes from Richmond, where he made a couple of senior appearances but mostly featured in the 20s.
He was part of Melbourne Victory’s NPL side last season, having also been at the AIS and Brisbane Roar youth side in previous years.
Gonano had also worked under Alistair Edwards in the Joeys squad when the former Perth Glory coach was still involved in the national youth team.
He featured on the bench in the side’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of old club Richmond last week..
Tidmarsh makes the move from Bentleigh Greens after just two competitive appearances for the club, with the club confirming his departure.
The 21-year-old joined Bentleigh in pre-season, signing from Gungahlin United in the NPL ACT with good wraps from his time in the nation’s capital.
He also notably featured in the FFA Cup national stages, where his side were knocked out in the first round by Sydney Olympic 1-0.
The pair become the second and third players to join the club mid-season, following the signing of Newcastle Jets’ Josh Barresi
They’ve been offset by the departure of first-team players Rodrigo Covarrubias, Gianni De Nittis and Lewis Waddell, who were notable omissions from the club’s penalty shootout FFA Cup Round 6 win over Avondale FC.
The club is expected to make further signings to strengthen the squad in its bid to consolidate its status in the NPL top flight as competition heats up with numerous clubs commencing their mid-season changes.
