Former NTC player Lexi Anastassiou has made the move to Heidelberg United for the 2016 NPLW season.
She returns to top flight of women’s football after featuring for Doncaster Rovers in State One last season since making the switch from the NTC.
Anastassiou is a recipient of the FFV Jones/Martin Award for best youth female in 2014.
That year she represented Victoria at the Girls’ National Youth Championships, captaining the Under 15s side and earning selection in the U16s Mini Matildas squad.
She featured alongside new Heidelberg teammate Joey Cartwright in the AFC Under-16 Championship qualifiers.
The midfielder will add depth to an already imposing midfield at Olympic Village.
Coach Bill Mihaloudis said he was pleased to offer the youngster an opportunity to continue developing her game at Heidelberg.
“Lexi is a powerful box to box midfielder with an amazing engine. There is no limit to her abilities,” Mihaloudis said.
“She is a talented footballer that can read the game exceptionally well and leads by example. For a young girl to show that leadership in such a short time at United just shows where she’s at as a footballer and why we value her so much.
“We are looking forward to see the best of Lexi over the next few seasons not just the next number of months.”
