Heidelberg United’s Women’s Premier League import Anisa Guajardo has received a late call-up to the Mexican national team for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
The 24-year-old will join the squad as an injury replacement for Ariana Calderón.
Heidelberg was notified of the striker’s selection on Thursday by national team manager Gerardo Lepe Villarreal.
It will be a whirlwind week for the striker, whose trip to Canada will come just days after playing her first game for Heidelberg under Bill Mihaloudis in a Round 10 fixture against the Senior NTC.
Prior to her Australian stint, Guajardo had been involved in the American football system, playing for the Pali Blues and Boston Breakers.
The American born international represented Mexico at U-17 and U-20 levels before making her full senior debut in 2011 against France.
She scored a hat-trick in the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament against the Dominican Republic, before participating in the 2013 Algarve Cup.
Mexico will face off against Colombia, England and France in Group F of the World Cup, held from 6 June to 5 July.
