Melbourne City skipper Paddy Kisnorbo has refuted claims that his side are in a crisis akin to last season’s winless run which ultimately cost former coach John Aloisi his job.
Sitting seventh on the A-League ladder after four winless games to start the season – including two losses in a row – Kisnorbo has quickly rebuffed the claims that his side are ‘desperate’ for a win as they face a Brisbane Roar side in a similar predicament.
“I don’t think it’s at that stage yet of being desperate, but obviously both teams would like to have a few more wins on the board,” the burly centre-half said.
“It’s going to be a hard game with two teams that need to pick up points. Hopefully we’ll be the team that can do that.
“It doesn’t matter about the results, [Brisbane] are still a good side, a good passing team and playing away from home is hard as well.
“But they’ve got a lot of good players in there, they play good football. We will have to go there and worry about ourselves and put in a good performance.”
When faced with the elephant in the room – which is the performance vs. pre-season outlay predicament – the City captain conceded while they do feel they need to start getting results, the performance is much more important in ensuring a sustained spell of form.
“Obviously there is an expectation on us and that’s fine by us,” Kisnorbo said.
“We set expectations on ourselves. We always expect high things. We have just got to be professional as footballers.
“If the City group hadn’t taken over, I don’t think these questions would be asked, but there are expectations on us now.”
He also gave his thoughts on why their form hasn’t been up to scratch, insisting it’s the little errors that are costing them.
“There are times where you haven’t played well and you’ve gotten a cheeky goal here or there – sometimes when you are playing well, it hasn’t gone your way,” he said.
“We are making our own mistakes. I don’t think we have been outplayed, it’s just a few errors we need to clean up. We’ve been working on it and hopefully we can take that into Saturday.”
Melbourne City travel north to face second bottom Brisbane Roar in a crucial game for both sides that’ll fear another loss could signal a long 2014-15. Kick-off at Suncorp Stadium is scheduled for 7:30pm.
