Despite the regular season having concluded after last weekend’s round 26 action, one fixture remained incomplete – the Melbourne Knights vs Melbourne Victory Round 23 game which was originally to have been played at Somers Street.
With the fixture originally postponed, it has since been announced that following consultation with both clubs, the result ends in a forfeit and a 3-0 result in favour of the Knights.
The teams had earlier met in Round 10, a contest played at Epping Stadium that the Knights won.
Despite heavy security measures on the day, reports emerged of incidents outside the stadium.
With further talks regarding matchday arrangements between all parties for the reverse fixture not reaching a mutual conclusion, the match was originally postponed before today’s final decision.
The result ultimately has no bearing on either side, with Victory’s relegation confirmed much each earlier, while the Knights were in mid-table, away from the finals or relegation battle.
The Knights will now continue to prepare for their FFA Cup Round of 16 encounter against Green Gully.
The determination ends a tumultuous season for Victory in NPL’s top flight that included a fan incident against South Melbourne at Lakeside and a campaign that yielded just the three wins.
