Preston Lions coach Zivko Kolevski was delighted with his side claiming their first victory of the season against a struggling Altona City at Genis Steel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The coach made specific mention of the importance of confidence, and how crucial this victory was in instilling more into his players for the forthcoming weeks.
“It’s a good win. You know, it’s a big confidence booster for the girls so I told them to enjoy it because they don’t come round too often,” he affirmed.
Despite the win, he rued his side’s inability to capitalise on the many chances they created particularly in the second half.
“I would’ve liked a few more,” he said.
“We’ve got a bad goal difference in the negative, but hey, I’m happy with the three points and that’s the most important thing.”
Kolevski went on to recognise that they would have to build cumulatively on this win to ensure they produce similar results down the line.
“There’s still a lot of work we have to do. Despite the win, I still wasn’t happy with the way we played. I still felt that our ball movement and control wasn’t the best. And in losing games, I thought we played better. We’ll just have to get back on the track and keep going,” he explained.
He was impressed with the performance of Casey Naumovski who proved to be a decisive factor throughout the game for his troops.
“Casey scored last week and I think her confidence is starting to grow. She was injured at the start of the season and with her fitness coming back, she’s starting to get more involved in the game,” he said.
The win elevates the Lions to third from bottom in the standings, a position which they will hope to consolidate when they take on mid-table Heidelberg United at Olympic Village on Saturday afternoon.
