Here are our match ratings from Melbourne City’s disappointing loss to Adelaide United.

Match Report > Adios David, as Villa’s City spell ends in defeat

***

GK: Andrew Redmayne – 5.5
Hasn’t been spectacular this season and while he hadn’t made mistakes up until this weekend, he’s not gone and made the spectacular saves that win games. On Friday he did make that mistake, bringing down Kamau inside the box for Adelaide’s penalty.

LB: Jonatan Germano – N/A
Wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make a real assessment of his game. Took a couple of early blows but looked promising enough before going down with a muscle injury.

CB: Rob Wielaert – 6
Should’ve tracked the run of Djite who just floated clean through at the near post to nod home the opener. Didn’t defend too badly and distribution through to midfielders was ok.

CB: Paddy Kisnorbo 7 (1 goal)
Was the best of the defenders. Scored the goal and didn’t let Djite bully him too much in what could’ve been a much tough afternoon for the two centre-halves. Arguably lucky to be on the pitch however after bringing down the Adelaide striker as the last man.

RB: Jason Hoffman – 6
Improved outing in his second appearance for the year, the naturally attack minded Hoffman was decent in his defensive duties and was quite comfortable on the ball.

CM: Erik Paartalu – 5
Like a broken record, but for such a quality player, Paartalu hasn’t imposed himself enough in the City midfield. Should be the one to break up the play, but the classy Adelaide midfield did it easy.

CM: Mass Murdocca – 5.5
Started the season fairly well, but seemed lost against Adelaide. Went off late with an injury, but up until then we didn’t get the energy and carry we’re used to seeing from the pint sized midfielder.

CM: Aaron Mooy – 7.5
Was fantastic in the first half and was at his box-to-box best, running hard across the ground. Distribution was decent, a few set-pieces were over hit, but as a whole, he was one of the rare players to put in a shift for the entire 90 minutes.

LW: David Villa – 8
Was a bit of a paradox, as the Spaniard looked disinterested for large chunks of the contest, but was by far the greatest attacking threat that City possessed. Will be forever remembered in Melbourne for his dazzling run on the left flank which saw him waltz into the box after riding a pair of lax tackles.

ST: Mate Dugandzic – 5
Touch let him down in a poor game for the forward. He did get a few chances to damage with his pace but spurned his chances before eventually being dragged.

RW: Damien Duff – 7 (1 assist)
Was his quietest game of the year but still troubled enough down the right flank. Can’t argue that he doesn’t put in a shift as he again worked his socks off for the full 90 minutes. His corner set Kisnorbo up for their goal.

Sub: Ben Garruccio – 4.5 (on 27’)
Not a great introduction back into the side as both goals came down his flank. He tucked in too much for the first, which allowed the improved Tarek Elrich to deliver for Djite. He was explicitly at fault for the second as he sold his keeper into trouble by losing the ball in his own 18-yard box.

Sub: David Williams – 5.5 (on 58’)
Was ok, won a couple of free-kicks early and missed a gilt-edged chance from Villa’s saved shot. Will be better for the run.

Sub Paulo Retre – N/A (on 83’)
