The Melbourne Knights have commenced preparations for the 2016 NPL Season with a number of notable departures from the club, including reigning NPL Goalkeeper of the Year Chris May.
Joining the Englishman out of the club are club stalwart Anthony Colosimo, midfielder Alex Dao and attacker Rodrigo Covarrubias who have all departed the club.
May is perhaps the most surprising of the outgoing four players having being one of the Knights most important players in 2015 with a number of memorable performances and vital saves going a long way to propelling Andrew Marth’s men to fourth on the competition ladder, with his efforts ultimately recognition as he collected the 2015 NPL Goalkeeper of the Year Award.
The Englishman arrived at the club in 2013 and went onto make 70 league appearances for the club as he now begins the search to find a new home in 2016.
Long-serving full-back Anthony Colosimo also departs Somers Street after seven seasons with the Knights following his first-team debut in 2009 under caretaker manager Lou Kastner, after the departure of Chris Taylor.
Colosimo was, up until his departure, the club’s longest-serving player having made 114 league appearances although he missed a large portion of both 2013 & 2014 through injury.
Midfielder Alex Dao leaves Somers Street following one season with the club in which he played 16 games and grabbed a goal on his debut against Avondale in the opening round of the season.
Covarrubias departs the Knights after two injury-plagued seasons where the former Northcote City and Pascoe Vale winger was restricted to just 18 matches, scoring four times for the club.
The departures announced by the Knights are set to be met with the more positive news of incoming players within the next few days.
