Oakleigh Cannons midfielder Jake McLean has made the move back to his native Queensland, signing on with NPL Queensland side Brisbane Strikers.
The midfielder spent just the one year in Victoria, linking up with Miron Bleiberg’s Cannons at the beginning of the 2014 NPL Victoria season, from Queensland outfit Olympic FC.
Joining former teammate Reuben Way (Heidelberg United) down South, McLean made 24 league appearances for Oakleigh, the most appearances of any player at the club in 2014.
He made three further appearances in Oakleigh’s run to the FFA Cup Quarter-Finals, having impressed in the 2014 edition also, scoring three goals in two appearances for Olympic FC.
The midfielder – a natural 10 – spent most of his season in a deeper box-to-box role, with players such as Dusan Bosnjak and Lambros Honos favoured in a more advanced midfield position.
McLean will be hoping the return to Queensland will bring with him a return to his attacking best, where in two seasons with Olympic FC he scored 13 goals in 44 appearances, winning a premiership in 2013.
