Northcote City have made a strong start to their recruitment for the 2017 NPL2 season with the signing of experienced goalkeeper Griffin McMaster.
The former A-League man played 26 games for Bulleen Lions last term and was instrumental in the club’s survival after its 2015 promotion.
Now he’ll be helping the 2013 VPL champions in their bid to bounce back to the top flight at first attempt following relegation in 2016.
“Northcote inquired about me which was nice and worked hard to make things happen,” McMaster told the club.
“There was just a feeling inside me saying go for it. It was a sixth sense, a gut feeling.”
“They are very keen on their end and I’m very hungry on my end so both ends were aligned. It’s great but all the hard work starts on day one.”
Northcote becomes McMaster’s sixth club in Victoria alongside the Lions, Heidelberg, Oakleigh, Bentleigh and Moreland Zebras, following a career which spanned 16 games at Brisbane Roar and two stints as back-up at Wellington Phoenix.
He joins young gloveman Phil Petrovski at Northcote’s ranks after the 21-year-old re-signed recently.
Arriving in 2016 after plying his trade at Goulburn Valley Suns, Petrovski emerged as first choice with a strong back end to the season despite the arrival of former Sydney FC youth Anthony Bouzanis.
“There’s no doubt last season was a real rollercoaster for everyone involved at Northcote. Having said that I have thoroughly enjoyed being at the Club and now I can turn my focus to preparing for 2017. I’m confident we can make a fresh start and come back stronger,” he told the club.
