Melbourne City FC have lined up a friendly match against NPL Victoria club Melbourne Knights, to be played as tune-ups ahead of their FFA Cup campaigns.
City travel to Perth to take on NPLWA side Floreat Athena in the FFA Cup Round of 32, with that fixture set to take place on August 2nd.
City first faced Port Melbourne at JL Murphy Reserve on Wednesday 20th July, winning 5-0 and giving game time to many of their youthful NPL stars including Luke Gallo, Yusuf Ahmed, Dennis Genreau and Austin Wong – the latter getting on the scoresheet.
Now, their second scheduled friendly of their pre-season sees City travel to Knights Stadium to take on Melbourne Knights on Tuesday 26th of July.
The Knights join City in the FFA Cup Round of 32, where they also face Western Australian opponents Cockburn City, hosting them on the 10th August.
It makes for a congested fixture for the Knights, who play five fixtures in just over a fortnight, but with NPL finals all but out of question, coach Andrew Marth may opt to rotate his young squad through their league fixtures.
There is also speculation that former A-League midfielder Jason Hicks has been eyeing a move to Europe
Gates open for the friendly against City at 6.00pm with the game kicking off at 7.30pm.
