Melbourne Victory captain Mark Milligan has been released from the Socceroos squad for the upcoming international friendlies, and is to fly back to Australia to seek treatment on a pre-existing knee injury.
The defensive midfielder had been the only player called up to Holger Osieck’s side from either of Melbourne’s two A-League teams, and was set to miss the round one Melbourne Derby tomorrow.
However, it appears that Milligan was already carrying a knee injury and was assessed as unfit to participate in the upcoming games by medical staff.
The 28-year-old will now return to Australia on the next available flight to continue his injury rehabilitation back home.
A replacement player will not be called up, as Milligan attempts to recover in time for the round two A-League match against Adelaide United on Friday week.
