Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has revealed that the club are looking for a new assistant coach to bring in a bit more experience to the backroom staff.
Youth coach Darren Davies has been performing a dual role following Muscat’s promotion, helping out with assistant coach duties while also remaining in charge of the youth side.
Muscat admitted that the coaching staff have been trying to temporarily fill the void, as he seeks a new addition to help get everything back to normal.
“I’ve had an opportunity now for three weeks to analyse what I wanted and how I want to set up the structure, and I’ve purposely took my time in doing that,” Muscat said.
“I’m adamant that I want to bring someone else in now to complement Darren and myself, and get another body as we’re still a body down.
“It wasn’t something I was going to be rushed into, now we’re getting to the point where I can give it serious consideration and make that decision in due course.”
The Melbourne Victory coach remained coy on potential candidates to fill the void, but laughed off suggestions Holger Osieck could be in the running for the job.
He was however adamant that his coaching team doesn’t lack the experience required to tackle the rest of the season.
“Not at all,” he said.
“We’re a body down from where the structure was a three weeks ago so that just suggests that more people pick up more workload.
“Having had the opportunity to sit down in the role for three weeks, it’s something I want to set up, the way I want my structure to be set up and I’ll make a decision on it.”
As it stands, Darren Davies will continue to fill in as assistant manager for the Adelaide United clash on Saturday night, one that Muscat feels the club cannot tackle with complacency.
“We do realise what it means for the fans to beat Adelaide,” Muscat said.
“Tomorrow night if we like to start looking for outcomes and beat Adelaide, we have to get the process right.
“If we get the process right and perform well, we got a great chance of beating Adelaide.”
The match kicks off at 7:45pm at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
