Northcote City have signed forward Borbor Sam for the remainder of the 2016 NPL Victoria season.
Sam is known for his stint at Glory’s youth side, where he spent four years within the club’s system.
He had been linked with a three-year deal at Newcastle Jets following the Glory’s salary cap scandal of last season.
He then featured for local Western Australian side Bayswater City FC.
A high-profile move to Olympia FC in Tasmania’s top flight followed, alongside fellow released Glory youth team members Jacob Collard and Lawrence Shuruma.
At the time, Olympia coach Glen McNeill labeled the move as one of the biggest in the state’s history.
“To have an ex-Aleague player gracing our game here in Tasmania is exciting for Olympia as well as the NPL as a whole,” McNeill explained
“The fact he is only 20 says a lot about where we are at and Borbor sees this as a great opportunity to showcase his talent and skill.”
Sam becomes Northcote’s fourth mid-season signing following the additions of Braedyn Crownley, Keenan Gibson and Marcus Duncan.
All four players have been involved in the A-League youth system.
“I’m rapid. I’m quick and strong. I like to run at players. I like to get at defenders. I’m not one to restart all the time. I move forward and I don’t like to go backwards,” Borbor told the club.
“We’ve definitely got the quality in the team to be successful. At training it’s been great but when it has come to implementing it in the game I think we’re just a little bit shy at the moment. We need someone to come out there and help show them how it’s done and I can do that.”
Northcote are coming off two consecutive 5-0 defeats against Hume City and Bentleigh Greens.
