Northcote City have announced the signing of New Zealand international Moses Dyer from Auckland-based Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Premier Stirling Sports Premiership side Eastern Suburbs.
The 20-year-old midfielder makes the move to John Cain Memorial Reserve and will not be counted a visa player given he is being registered as a 20s player, with City’s visa spots already taken up by British pair Nathan Cook and Matthew Whateley.
An Auckland City junior, Dyer made his senior breakthrough with ASB Premiership side Wanderers as a 17-year-old in 2014, spending a full season at QBE Stadium under the tutelage of former New Zealand Knights captain Darren Bazeley, who in 2015 called the youngster up for national duty in the 20s.
The exciting young midfielder was then named in the senior side by coach Anthony Hudson just days after his 18th birthday as a replacement for injured PEC Zwolle winger Ryan Thomas.
Dyer was handed his national team debut after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to the Taeguk Warriors in a game played out in front of a crowd of over 35,000 spectators.
He returned to Auckland and spent the summer plying his trade with Onehunga Sports while also being a part of the New Zealand squad at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
Dyer was named in Hudson’s 23-man squad for the 2016 OFC Nations Cup alongside South Melbourne defender Luka Adams, Pascoe Vale attacker Luka Prelevic and then Eastern Lions midfielder Sam Burfoot, with the All Whites eventually claiming their fifth title in Papua New Guinea.
He subsequently made the switch to hometown side Eastern Suburbs in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Premiership where his teammates included Adams, Burfoot and former Oakleigh forward Sean Lovemore in addition to current Cannons striker Nate Foster.
Dyer joins the NPL2 West front-runners ahead of this week’s massive clash away to Moreland Zebras and will be eligible for team selection having sat out last night’s FFA Cup triumph away to Mooroolbark.
