Whether they’re the creative force pulling the strings from behind the strikers, or the more conventional attacking midfielder with more freedom to drift into the channels, these players are not only proven goal scorers but are often the focal point of team attacks as they angle deliveries to their two wide players as well as directly to the striker in front of them. Dusan Bosnjak (Oakleigh Cannons)
The Bill Fleming medallist was also in the golden boot race for long periods of the season, highlighting his proficiency from an attacking midfield role. Bosnjak as one of the pivotal players this season after finding full fitness. So many of his goals proved crucial winners as well to aid his side’s run to the grand final.
Evan Christodoulou (Green Gully)
The kind of season expected from the attacking midfielder, with goals and assists aplenty. His teammates seemed to drop like flies around him with injuries throughout the season, so Christodoulou also ended up playing numerous roles – including deeper on the pitch – for Arthur Papas’ side and provided a tireless presence.

It’s not easy being released from professional football especially after spending most of your adult life in it. But Germano came roaring back to form in the NPL, freeing himself from the injuries that have dogged him in the past. Utilised in an attacking role by coach Anthony Barbieri, he thrived by providing numerous goals and assists which should put him back in the A-League window.
Marcus Schroen (South Melbourne)
His move from Hume City made waves in the off-season, but it ultimately paid dividends for both player and club. While Schroen himself admitted it wasn’t smooth sailing all season, a key attribute emerged which was his ability to produce clutch performances in big games as highlighted by the grand final, similar to his FFA Cup feats of last year, to put himself back in the A-League window.
