Off the Pitch: Fraser Maclaren & Alastair Bray’s LE Gloves

In a new segment, TCF takes a look at some of work being done off the pitch by players and staff in the Victorian football fraternity.

It’s not every day that two young goalkeepers decide to establish their own niche football-related business, but that’s exactly what cousin pairing Alastair Bray and Fraser Maclaren have done.

The duo have created their own customised goalkeeper gloves business, ‘LE Gloves,’ which despite its modest beginnings has grand ambitions for the future.

What initially started as an idea to design their own ideal glove for personal use has expanded into a business venture.

“We were just sitting on the couch one day and thought to ourselves that we should make something of the glove and commercialise it through the setting up of our business,” says Dandenong Thunder custodian Maclaren.

“What we wanted was to create gloves which are indicative of top quality, comfort and the local football community. At the same time the gloves are affordable to the wider public.

“There are a lot of gloves on the market of this type of quality, but they are not accessible to everybody and that’s where this glove differs from others.”

Affordability is not the only feature of LE Gloves, which will potentially make them an item of choice for most goalkeepers in the state, according to Bray.

“As well as being affordable, it’s a glove of high quality and comfort,” Maclaren adds.

Details about the gloves have previously been kept largely quiet by the duo, keen to build anticipation ahead of its release, with their website going live at www.legloves.com.au.

It describes the products as “world-class goalkeeping gloves and lifestyle apparel, combining tradition, profession and value to push for new standards… founded upon the desire of two up-and-coming Australian goalkeepers to create a new breed of product.”

Updates on gloves and accessories will be provided on the business’s website, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

LE Gloves also now has A-League representation, with Bray having recently signed for the Central Coast Mariners.
