Battle Ready
Under the radar: it’s a condition some sporting teams shun in favour of the bravado and associated attention that comes with being in the spotlight.
For the Oakleigh Cannons however, they have assumed this mantle with pride.
Charging through their first two FFA Cup ties with the guts and determination of their Greek forefathers, the club has gone about their business without much of a fuss.
And it has worked. Narrow wins over Far North Queensland Heat and Adelaide’s Metrostars have granted the Southern based club a berth against a cross-town rival that has been anything but under the radar.
Their training adopts a methodicalness under the guidance of Arthur Papas, and there’s an underlying physicality with which they approach every drill.
Oakleigh may have finished the 2015 NPL Victoria season just outside potential relegation, but the boys in blue are fired up to seal a coveted spot in the final four of the FFA Cup.
