South Yarra lose Hall for WPL season

South Yarra coach Danny Hall has coached his last game in the Women’s Premier League, the Corner Flag can exclusively reveal.

With South Yarra expected to turn down the chance to apply for a WNPL Victoria licence next year, Hall’s final top-flight game leading the team was their 4-0 loss to Ashburton, in which they put in a brave performance.

The Englishman leaves the club after 12 rounds due to family reasons, with the promoted side sitting in 11th place, just a game away from safety.

“My players attitude and desire has been a credit to themselves and I am proud to manage and coach them. I will of course stay involved as much as possible from the UK and remain as head coach on a sabbatical,” Hall said.

“The way that we are playing and competing – save for the odd 15 minute blow out when we conceded four or so goals – gives me every confidence that we will finish outside the bottom two.”

Assistant coach Jeff Thomas will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season, with the task of acquiring a spot outside of the bottom firmly in his sights.
