Matildas boss Alen Stajcic has named his 23-player squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada, with only three Victorian based players named in the squad, while Bri Davey to miss out as reported on the weekend.
Steph Catley and Lisa De Vanna make the cut after stellar seasons for Melbourne Victory in the most recent W-League campaign, while Melissa Barbieri also makes the cut as a part of the goalkeeper team heading across for the tournament starting early June.
There’s a record fourth World Cup appearance for current Box Hill United and Lady Red keeper Barbieri, while the tournament is Perth born De Vanna’s third campaign where she’ll get the chance to earn her 100th international cap.
At the other end of the scale, Melbourne Victory’s 21-year-old captain Steph Catley is heading to her first World Cup and will be a crucial member of the Matildas defensive structure.
