Sunshine George Cross have made the addition of Nepalese international Jagajeet Shrestha to their 2017 NPL2 squad.
The diminutive midfielder comes across from SL2 outfit Hume United, where he made his Australian club debut last year.
The 24-year-old formerly plied his trade with homeland clubs including Himalayan Sherpa Club, Friends Club and Three Star Club.
Previously dubbed the ‘Nepalese Messi’, he has in the past trained and trialled in Europe with the likes of Stuttgart and Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok.
Shrestha has made more than 20 appearances for Nepal, scoring once in a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Timor-Leste.
He scored twice on debut with Hume United upon his arrival and his stint in the state leagues led to interest from the NPL.
He becomes Sunshine George Cross’ first Visa signing for 2017, replacing the outgoing pair of Yusei Kitade and Hernan Arredondo, who combined for 11 goals in the latter half of 2016 as Tony Ciantar’s side finished the season with a positive run of results.
Shrestha joins David Younan (Bendigo City), Barry Devlin (Geelong SC), Tedros Yabio (Whittlesea Ranges), Andreas Miltiadou (Heidelberg United), George Tsiakalakis (St Albans Saints).
