In a rematch of last year’s thrilling 5-3 Team App Cup Grand Final, Boroondara Eagles will host Bulleen Lions for a spot in this year’s edition of the competition.
One of the most hotly contested games of the season saw Boroondara lead the Lions 3-2 at half-time with Gold Medalist Amy Jackson netting twice in the victory.
Taryne Boudreau added further to the open contest with a fourth for the Eagles – who has since moved to and departed from Bulleen Lions – before Tasmanian Rani Cavarretta pushed the scoreline further out to 5-2, with Cindy Lay netting a consolation five minutes from time.
The Eagles are they only State League side left in the competition, with their road to the semi-finals all coming against non-NPLW opposition.
They accounted for Keilor Park 5-3 in a goal fest in Round One, before beating another former WPL side in Ashburton United 3-1 in the Second Round.
A 4-0 win over Croydon City Arrows and a 2-0 win over Moreland Zebras booked their spot in the Semi-Final as they continue their unbeaten start to the season.
In all competitions, the Eagles have won 11 and drawn just once, and sit outright top of the SL1SE ladder, six points off their nearest competitors.
Bulleen Lions in their own right have had a successful season to date, currently sitting second having lead the NPLW competition at times this season.
They showed little mercy in their run in to the Semi-Finals, putting an unanswered 21 past Watsonia Heights in Round Two, including a hat-trick or better to Dani Gudelj, Emily Coppock, Taryne Boudrea and Beattie Goad.
Bulleen trumped NPLW opponents Galaxy United 2-0 before progressing to the final with a hard fought 4-2 win over South Melbourne who looked a good match-up despite the loss.
The other match-up sees Heidelberg United host Alamein FC in the all NPLW Semi-Final draw, with both sides enjoying a decent – albeit inconsistent – league season to date.
Heidelberg have enjoyed a relatively kind draw on their Cup journey, with this their first top-flight match up to date.
A 9-0 win over Old Xaverians was followed up by a 3-0 win over Brighton SC, with their final match proving a much tighter affair.
Despite eventually overpowering Melbourne University 2-1, their State League 1 opponents could have easily progressed through in that tie.
Alamein on the other hand have done it tough in their progression through this competition, save for a 13-0 Round Two win over Brandon Park.
They versed NPLW opponents in two consecutive games, ousting Calder United 1-0, before beating Bayside United 4-2 in the Quarter-Finals earlier this month.
The two fixtures are set to be played on Sunday, 3rd of July which will decide who goes through to the Team App Cup final.
