After a lengthy wait, Archie Thompson will represent new club Heidelberg United for the first time in the NPL Victoria.
The Melbourne Victory legend and prolific Socceroos striker will lace up the boots in a home fixture against Oakleigh Cannons on Sunday, 14 August 2016 at 4pm at Olympic Village.
Despite having registered with the club since the conclusion of the mid-season transfer window, Thompson started training recently and will feature in what will be the club’s last home game of the season.
It will be Thompson’s second club apart from Melbourne during his tenure at Victory which yielded 91 goals in 224 games, with a loan at PSV 10 years ago his only other stint away from the A-League.
After announcing his departure from Gosch’s Paddock after over a decade, he confirmed a desire to continue his playing career.
While he will make the league appearance, Heidelberg officials are still optimistic Thompson may be available for its finals campaign as the Bergers currently sit second on the ladder, praising his positive impact on the playing squad.
In a massive run home to the conclusion of the campaign, Heidelberg travel to Kingston Heath tonight in a top of the table battle against current leaders Bentleigh Greens, having leapfrogged South Melbourne into a top-two position.
