Port Melbourne boss Eric Vassiliadis is looking forward to exacting revenge on Hume City, ahead of their Round 12 Victorian Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to The Corner Flag after his side’s 1-0 win over South Melbourne on Sunday, the contented coach reflected on Hume’s 5-0 loss to Northcote, admitting that he was excited at the prospect of toppling a side who will be licking their wounds during the week.
“They’ve [Hume] gone and lost in a pretty bad way – they’ll be looking to respond, but it should be a good game, because I kind of think we owe them one,” he said.
The Shark’s boss was ecstatic with his team’s conquest over South, the team whom Port have now conquered three times in two years, though this was the first in the Victorian Premier League.
“Sometimes in football, you have those kind of bogey teams,” he explained.
“Today we were focused on the fact that they were looking to respond from a pretty tough week, and to be fair, we got a goal early, and it seemed that we sat back and weren’t as adventurous as we needed to be.
“Ultimately, I’m very happy given our history to walk away with three points.”
Moreover, Vassiliadis made mention of the importance of netting early, which he believed was a key factor in dictating the direction they game took.
“Sometimes though in a strange sort of way, if you score early, the impetus leaves a team, particularly when you’re playing away from home. I think that’s what happened in the end.
“There’s plenty for us to work on and improve on, but for now we focus on the three points and look forward to Hume next week.”
Port travel to Broadmeadows Valley Park on Sunday afternoon, knowing a win could see them leapfrog their opponents into third spot in the standings.
