Victoria has named its squad for the 2016 Bass Strait Cup, a clash between a Victorian and Tasmanian women’s select side to be played in the Apple Isle this year.

Jess Tay is the sole survivor from 2015’s triumphant squad, and also the only player to feature all three times for Victoria since the competition’s inception in 2013. Meanwhile, Brittany Dudley-Smith returns after featuring in 2013.

Mark Torcaso, the premiership and championship-winning coach at Calder United and 2016 FFV coach of the year, will lead the side.

In 2013, Rani Cavarretta’s 13th minute goal sealed a 1-0 win Tasmania on home soil.

With no game in 2014, the contest was played in Victoria at the Veneto Club in 2015, with the hosts winning on that occasion.

Cavaretta again open the scoring, but then Taryne Boudreau, Sarah Jacobs, Nat Martineau and Em Coppock all netted to seal the 4-1 win.

Adelyn Ayton and Holly Ayton (Heidelberg United), Aimee Medwin and Lucy Johnson (Boroondara Eagles) headline some of the familiar faces for Tasmania after plying their trade for Victorian clubs over the years.

The NPL Victoria Women’s clubs nominated players trained for the first time on September 22 – players in W-League contention were not in contention for selection.

Tasmania will host this year’s Bass Strait Cup at KGV Park in Glenorchy on Saturday October 15, 2016, with kick-off at 1pm.
