Melbourne Victory have confirmed the signing of midfielder Rashid Mahazi on a two year deal, a week out from the start of the A-League season.
The former Northcote City player had spent a good couple of months on trial at the club, playing in various friendlies for the senior and youth teams, and had also traveled with the squad on their recent trip down to Tasmania.
Mahazi comes to Victory with decent pedigree, spending some time on the books of Argentinian club Independiente, who are well known for producing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Now back in Australia, he played a starring role for a dominant Northcote early on in the Victorian Premier League season. His impressive performances attracted the eye of Victory management and coach Ange Postecoglu is certainly confident that his new signing will continue to improve as a player and add depth to the club’s already impressive list.
“Rashid’s performances throughout the pre-season have been very promising and we are looking forward to seeing him further develop as he spends more time with the squad in the lead-up to the season,” Postecoglou said.
“We see him as a player with plenty of upside and someone that can fit well into our structures while also providing us with further depth in midfield.”
Mahazi will take up the vacant no.16 shirt, which has previously been worn by Theo Markelis and more notably Carlos Hernandez.
