Melbourne Victory/City fans have to fear no longer, after Fox Sports Australia today announced that the subscription television station were deep into discussions about broadcasting the 2015 W-League season.
Budget cuts to the ABC under the current government meant that the axe fell on their coverage of the W-League on free-to-air TV.
But in a shock twist, it was revealed that the ABC are have held talks with Fox Sports about simultaneously broadcasting games.
The future of the league has been up in the air for the last few months, but this move sets to alleviate some of the fears that the women’s game is taking a backwards step in terms of coverage.
Fox Sports announced it would be broadcasting Sunday fixtures as a curtain raiser for A-League games on later in the afternoon, at the same ground.
This is also the first hint at how the FFA will be looking to schedule the 2015 W-League season, and a long overdue gesture given the success in the past.
Melbourne Victory took in a record home & away crowd of 14,068 in their Round 7 clash against Canberra United at Etihad Stadium, which ended in a 1-0 loss for the hosts.
That game played opener to the Round 3 Melbourne Derby in a similar fashion to what is planned for W-League Sunday fixtures.
This will also see the parent A-League clubs help market the fixtures, with suggestions that an all-inclusive membership or game double pass may be put to use.
