Pencil Sunday, 25th of October in your calendars Victorian football fans, as that date marks the first ever Melbourne derby in the W-League, as Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory do battle at AAMI Park for Round Two of the upcoming season.
That’s one of many sub-plots to have come out of the W-League fixture reveal this morning, with the new nine team competition boasting byes, A-League double headers and yet another Melbourne Derby to feast our eyes on.
Melbourne Victory begin their 2015-16 league campaign against last years runner up Perth Glory at Hume’s ABD Stadium on Saturday, 17th October.
City on the other hand start their season away against Sydney FC on Sunday the 18th of October, with their first home game at their main stadium – CB Smith Reserve in Fawkner – in Round Five against Adelaide United.
They are also the hosts of the inaugural derby against the Victory in Round Two – that fixture playing curtain raiser for the Round Three A-League fixture Melbourne City vs. Central Coast Mariners.
Melbourne Victory also get the chance to play before their men’s side, with their Round 11 fixture against Sydney FC set to open for the Victory vs. Perth Glory clash at AAMI Park.
The second Melbourne Derby will take place at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex in the state’s south-east in Round Eight.
They play at Kingston the round after that, and also boast Epping Stadium, AAMI Park and ABD Stadium amongst their home grounds for the upcoming season.
Both sides also get two byes a piece, Victory missing Rounds Six and 14, while City miss Round’s Seven and 13.
