Box Hill United assistant coach Chris Yena has praised the club for its unity, after the team extended their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Bendigo City last weekend.
The streak started with the appointment of Greg Kassidas as senior coach, following the departure of Alfredo Constantino.
Kassidas’ reign started with a 1-0 win over Murray United back in Round 14 and since then, Box Hill have gone eight unbeaten, winning five of those matches, and have pushed themselves back into promotion contention in the process.
Yena said that the club has come together to put their season back together after a rough start.
“I just think, the boys on the park should take the credit, they do all the work,” the assistant coach said.
“But I think as a club, we’ve banded together and we want to put some wins together and finish on the top half of the ladder.
“We’ve just tried to play some good football so far and just try to grind out some results.
“We’ve been pretty fortunate and we can take the wins when we can.”
Following their tough fought 2-0 win over Bendigo, United have jumped up to fourth on the table on 33 points, six behind second-placed Richmond SC who hold the last finals place.
To their advantage, Box Hill play six of their last seven games at home at Wembley Park, a venue where they’ve gathered 14 points from 24.
Yena says that the team’s only focus is on their own games.
“Anything is possible,” he said.
“We’ll just keeping winning games and we’ll worry about what we’ll do. And if other teams help us with that aim, we’ll take it.
“But we’ll just try to win as many games as possible.”
United next host fellow NPL1 team Dandenong City on Saturday afternoon.
