Kassidas: Consolidation, not change in store for Box Hill

New Box Hill United coach Greg Kassidas has said that he will not implement too many changes at the club he loves as he looks to keep his team’s momentum going.

After replacing the departed Alfredo Constantino last week, Kassidas took the reigns for the first time against Murrary United last Saturday afternoon.

His side got off to the perfect start with a tight 1-0 win in an entertaining match, but the new coach maintains that his arrival doesn’t signal drastic change, but rather, little “tweaks”.

“We will work on the structure and make it more solid. [But] there will not too many changes,” Kassidas said.

“We will make little changes as we go, and we’ll tweak it this way and that way – week by week – so not too many changes. Because we want to keep our momentum going.

“Coming into a new group and trying to keep everything not too different [whilst keeping] the momentum going is important. It was good for us to finish off with a win [in my first game].”

Kassidas says the team will look to establish themselves as a team that plays a “good brand of football”, while maintaining a harmonious dressing room and squad over the rest of the season.

“The goal at the end of the season is for the boys to consolidate and play a good brand of football. We’re known for our exciting game and we will look to continue with that,” he said.

“We are looking to keep the dressing room solid, keep the young boys coming on and get some wins on the board.”

When asked if he felt he was nervous about taking the head coach role after it became an option, the former assistant coach was fast to reject the notion, labelling himself “elated and excited”.

“I’ve been at the club for a couple of years and I stepped back for other reasons,” he said.

“But as soon as I got the call, I was elated and excited. It got the blood pumping again, so I have no issues with that. I love the club.”
