Kingston City have unveiled Dandenong Thunder midfielder Daniel Bennett as their first off-season recruit as they look to bolster their playing stocks ahead of the 2017 NPL campaign.
The 22-year-old is reunited at the Grange Reserve with former Canberra FC teammate Mouad Zwed with the two wingers helping the club secure the 2015 ACT NPL Championship.
He arrived in Melbourne last summer and immediately made an impression at George Andrews Reserve by scoring on debut against Nunawading City.
In total Bennett featured in every one of the Thunder’s 29 league games, netting five goals in total as Huss Skenderovic’s men narrowly missed out on automatic promotion at the expense of Kingston.
The highlight of his time at George Andrews Reserve came in the Round 19 home derby fixture against Dandenong City where he scored a spectacular volley from just outside the penalty area to give his side the lead and put his name in the mix for Goal of the Season.
Kingston manager Nick Tolios was delighted with the acquisition of Bennett and hopes he can re-kindle his partnership down the flanks with Zwed.
“Daniel is a very versatile player who brings a lot of quality to the playing squad and I’m delighted to have snapped him up as I’m sure other clubs would have also been interested in his services,” Tolios said.
“He has previously played with Mo (Mouad Zwed) at Canberra and I’m sure that he will have no problem adjusting to his new surroundings.”
